The static shaft shoulder friction stir welding is a newly developed friction stir welding joint technique in which the shaft shoulder is separated from the stirring pin in structural form. When welding, the stirring pin rotates alone, and the shaft shoulder slides on the surface of the material to be welded. Compared with the conventional friction stir welding process, the static shaft friction stir welding can reduce the heat input during welding, obtain uniform heat gradient in thickness direction, and improve the surface quality of the joint. Static shaft shoulder friction stir process is suitable for Aluminum Alloy Thick Plate, fillet weld and titanium alloy and other materials with low heat transfer rate.
